SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Social responsibility is a crucial aspect of the seafood supply chain as it ensures that all individuals involved in the production process, from fishermen and farmers to retailers and consumers, are treated fairly and ethically. The seafood industry has a responsibility to protect the environment, ensure the safety of its workers, and promote sustainable practices. Ethical practices such as fair labor standards and responsible sourcing can improve the welfare of both workers and the environment. Transparency in the supply chain is also essential to ensure that consumers can make informed choices about the seafood they consume. By prioritizing social responsibility, the seafood industry can contribute to a more sustainable future for all.

Nusatuna has engaged Sedex in order to establish social responsibility in our tuna supply chain. Sedex is a global non-profit organization that offers an ethical trade platform for companies to monitor and manage their social, ethical and environmental impacts. Implementation of Sedex in our seafood supply chain will help us to practice responsible sourcing of seafood products. By joining Sedex, we can collaborate with our suppliers, assess their supply chains and mitigate risk by monitoring our suppliers’ and vessels ethical and social performance. Sedex enables businesses to improve their credibility and reputation by ensuring that they comply with national and international labour laws, environmental protection regulations, and product safety standards. Sedex implementation can also help in safeguarding workers’ rights while ensuring the sustainable use of marine resources.

Corporate social responsibility in our local fishing communities is a core value of NusaTuna. In the Bitung area where our main tuna processing facilities are located, we are focused on working with local schools to assist them with needs and improvements to the schools that are not currently being realized.
